January 31st, 2011

Here are the highlights of my day:
  •  Much of Illinois, including Bloomington where I live, will be getting over a foot of snow in the next 48 hours.  Since Bloomington in general has a fear of snow, it is likely that I will not have work on Wednesday.  My first reaction was to go out and buy a sled, since I completely missed out on sledding this season.  All I could find was an inner tube, but that should be good enough.  If you're going to buy a sled, buy it early in the season, because they don't stock them after a certain point in the season.
  • Work was entertaining... Let's just say that things are not always as they seem at first.  I'm pretty good at staying flexible and finding solutions to problems even if they aren't expected, so everything should turn out fine.
  • Waking up next to Jennifer is always the main highlight of my day, of course. :)
Difficult decision of the day:  There really wasn't one.  Making myself do the dishes was slightly difficult, but hopefully I'll find more challenge in tomorrow.

Most important lesson learned:  It is easier to stay on task when you remove yourself from your immediate desires and work towards long-term ideals.

(Not much of a post, but I've got a headache that is hindering my creativity.)

Welcome to my blog!

Hello everyone! I bet anyone reading this is going to find it at least a little strange that I'm starting a blog. Here are some of the reasons for this new endeavour:

* I have been having trouble keeping myself on task towards my goals as of late. Sometimes when I have free time I conveniently forget the important things I want to do and spend my time on things I regret later. I think that chronicling my daily events will help me to make better decisions by looking at the good decisions of the past and the rewards I've reaped from them. I also think that it will keep me on track better, because I will (ideally) only choose to do things that I can share without shame and regret.

* I don't communicate the details of my life to very many people anymore, not even my family as much as I would like to. I'd like to put a quick little daily digest on to give others that information, and to get me in the habit of posting pictures and staying in touch with the people I care about.

* Similarly, I'm not as open with people as I should be, and I'd like to try to improve on that through writing and making a conscious effort to have personal conversations with others.

* I really enjoy the searchability that has come with technologies such as Gmail, but there is one thing that isn't stored in those technologies of mine yet: my thoughts. While this blog won't be 100% revealing, I hope to at least get a good collection of searchable summaries of different topics that matter to me.

Typing all of this out on my little Samsung Epic keyboard is fairly tiring, so I'll do my first real post tomorrow along with inviting the pilot set of members to view the blog. I hope that everyone will get as much out of this as I hope to. Thanks for reading!
